Spiced Cranberry Sangria

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Total time: 25 minutes

Servings: Ratios below

When I used to live near a Trader Joe's, I discovered their Winter Wassail beverage... which is perfect for the holidays. Granted, this recipe doesn't have any cider in it, but tastes very similar! Make as many pitchers as you want and up the rum if you like it boozier. Serve it warm or chilled!

Pros: elegant, mellow, holiday tasting

Cons: more prep required compared to other sangrias

Ingredients for a pitcher:

  • 1:1 ratio of red wine to cranberry pomegranate juice

  • Healthy pour of spiced rum

  • 3 sticks of cinnamon

  • 1 cup of cranberries

  • 1 pear (sliced)

  • 1 orange (sliced)

  • Fresh rosemary

  1. Heat up your juice and bring it to a simmer. Drop in your cinnamon sticks and cranberries. Keep simmering until you start to see (and hear) the cranberries bursting.

  2. Turn off the heat and add in half the pear and orange slices. Add a small sprig of rosemary. Let sit for 10 minutes.

  3. Pour in your wine and spiced rum. Mix and serve warm or allow to chill in the fridge for a few hours! Use the remaining pear, orange, and rosemary to garnish your glasses.
